"Never mind. In God's own time, the Filipinos will rise in arms against Spain and win their independence like our people. Then, and only then, shall we be able to resume our ties with the Philippines."
-Bishop Antonio Juaquin Perez of Puebla
Admin: I've been reading a lot of WW2 stuff lately, and though Mexico has nothing to do with it, that's all I've been thinking of.
It is said that Filipinos helped the Mexicans gain their independence. Once Mexico gained independence, links to the Philippines was terminated by Spain. Apparently, according to this link
, Mexico sent secret agents to the Philippines to help them start a revolution against Spain and inform the Filipinos of Mexican support. Obviously, they failed (about 50 yrs too early)
, hence the statement above.
In my headcanon, it would take more than a 100yrs before they see each other again. This strip happened in 1945, when Mexico sent the Escuadron 201
, a Mexican fighter squadron attached to the US Army Air forces during the liberation of the island of Luzon, Philippines.
But I guess if you involve their human side/emotions on this story, at least in Mexico's POV, their reunion is more bittersweet and pretty much contradicts the image of Feli that he had preserved in his mind for the past 100+ years.
Sigh. Im just in the mood for feels. Hmn... Maybe for this month of February, instead of temporarily breaking my neutrality, maybe I should just make nothing but heart breaking headcanon stories. Just coz Im feeling sadistic. lololol!
