All Grown Up part 4 by AskFelipinas All Grown Up part 4 by AskFelipinas
Admin: And this is me, failing at shipping stuff. Oh well, back to neutrality...

*Just a little important tidbit, this story is around the 1980's (most likely around 1984, before Brunei joined the ASEAN). And for those not familiar with Philippine history, well, we were pretty messed up back then. A lot of political drama going on (And dont ask me about it. Politics is one of my least fave subjects, and I dont really understand what happened back then). So, you gotta be insane, or at least blind to say what Brunei just said, coz things was definitely not ok. Hence, Phili's reaction. But, Brunei probably means, personality-wise. She's still the same cheerful kid, only with a new set of friends.

part 4: You are here

Note: The big guy in the flashback panel is Tondo. The kid behind him is Sulu, and the little one is Manila. They are Phili's big bothers and are Kingdoms in pre-colonial Philippines. They still exist today. And yes. Phili is the kid clinging to Brunei.
Note: China carriyng baby Hongkong, with little Taiwan and SK. Though Im not sure I should have included SK there. I have a feeling that there is a different Korea existing in this time. Anyway, I just felt like drawing kids with China. Yup, he's blocking Japan.  Back then, he monopolized, or tried to monopolize(not sure which) trade with the Pre colonial Philippines, that Japan had to resort to piracy just to get some goods.
Note: I based Malaysia and Indonesia's personality on *dinosaurusgede maaf doujin.

Awesome! I especially love Phili's face at the last panel when she's looking at Brunei. And yeah, we're definitely Asian! Even if we're almost Latino and we are influenced with a predominant western religion, our culture's still has a distinctive Asian mix on it (e.g love for our own family, our innate desire for social harmony and peace, our aversion to situations that may cause 'hiya', etc) We're just as Asian as Malaysia and Indonesia and other Asian countries, but along the way, we have learned to embrace other culture and assimilate it with ours :3

Though it would be great if we can enlighten other Filipinos of our pre-colonial history, just like our past relationship with Brunei and other southeast asian nations :) Thank you for this good art depicting that!

PS I love Indonesia and Malaysia at the end. Haha, poor Indonesia! :P
